Enviromentally Friendly Process

Our clean and green iron removal filter is based on a hydro-automatic system known as “Deferum” which is designed for the non-reagent removal of high levels of dissolved iron, dissolved gases (Hydrogen Sulphide, Carbon Dioxide, Methane and Radon) as well as suspended particles.

The filter processes water 24 hours a day, year-round hydro automatically and only requires the bore pump to deliver 75 psi at the relative volume to the filter. They are designed to clean themselves only when needed, thus greatly reducing water waste.

The clean and green iron removal filter:

  • Uses No chemicals
  • Has no moving parts
  • Requires minimal maintenance.

It uses natural forces of aeration to oxidise the iron and the filter automatically backwashes. Our filters have been in the international market for over 10 years and comes with a money back and performance guarantee of removing the iron in the water to < 0.5 mg/L.

Features of the AWS iron removal filter system include:

  • The filter works hydro automatically and requires no external intervention.
  • Combined continuous removal of iron, dissolved gases, suspended solids and turbidity
  • No compressed air, pressurised water or electrical power. All processes are controlled and driven by the filter itself
  • No pump. The volume of water required for back washing is held in the storage area inside the filter, which means there is no need for a back washing pump
  • No chemical reagents are used in the process
  • Low failure factor due to absence of mechanical or electrical devices
  • Minimal maintenance
  • The system operation self-adapts to changing contaminant loadings
  • A small amount of water is required for backwash (1.5% of output)
  • No moving or rotating parts are used in the process

The filter comes in 3 sizes yet 5 configurations:

Detailed Environmentally Friendly Process

The filter processes water 24 hours a day, year-round hydro automatically, and only requires the bore pump to deliver 75 psi at the relative volume to the filter. They are designed to clean themselves only when needed, thus greatly reducing water waste. The process is triggered by the increase in resistance through the polymer floating filtering media as the iron and other contaminates is extracted. The polymer floating filtering media has a life span of over 25 years.

The main points with the filtration process are:

  • The filtration process is driven by the borehole pump. The borehole pump needs to provide the correct flow and pressure to the filter to ensure it functions properly and creates a sufficient vacuum for backwash (at least 5 bars). Should the borehole pump capacity be too low, at the very least, the wet end of the pump may need replacing to ensure the low flow and high pressure required can be provided, while the borehole pump still performs within its performance curve.
  • Water is injected at a high velocity into the top of the hydro robot where it is intensely aerated and hits a splash plate.  When the water is ruptured, it allows all the dissolved gases in the water to be released and expelled (carbon dioxide, Sulphur, radon and methane). The water falls down the hydro robot and enters the bottom of the filter. The upward flow of water passes through the floating polymer bed which has an electrostatic charge and thereby attracts all the oxidized iron. Clean water flows through to the top of the filter and overflows into the filtrate tank.
  • The filtration process is an up-flow process, therefore the filtered water overflows from the filter into the storage tank.  Due to the gravity flow the filter outlet needs to be above the top of the storage tank and the tank may be dropped slightly to facilitate the height requirements
  • The backwash facility on the filter removes the iron oxide from the filter bed and will be fed into a soak well. The backwash process last for 3 minutes and uses up less than 5% of total water produced by the filter; hence it is a very economical and efficient utilization of water resources.
